If you ask me, the world is like covered by the mist.
I can 't remember how small I was when I started to pick up the painting brush, but my father has been carefully keeping my drawings in my childhood. At that time, I already loved drawing complicated woods, as well as all kinds of animals and plants. The more I drew, the faster I became, I remember that I could draw from my memory since Grade Three.
Until today, a large part of my works are painted by memory. Or strictly speaking, even not by memory, those views are compiled from my mind. Some asked me why I painted so fast, I said because I was lazy, even not to collect picture materials, and never drew a sketch, of course saving a lot of effort.
This kind of working manner gives me a relatively relaxed and free state in painting. Comparing to the sketching class in the college, I think the current status is really happiness. Since the year I graduated from college, I started the creation of the Mirage of the Mist series.
Why I named such a title, it is also a matter by chance. In my spare time, I like to read comic books, and occasionally I read such a story, it’s about food, the protagonist of the story came into the mist, found a table on which was full of all kinds of delicacy. After tasting the food, the protagonist exclaimed, real delicacy will smash the common sense of people, new common sense will appear one after another, make the old taste vanishing, the new taste will instantly awaken. This story has given me a great deal of inspiration. Routing people’s knowledge about painting, enlightening a new feeling about art, isn’t this very interesting? The mist represents the unknown, the uncertainty, and the new world. I should try my best to show what it is like. I want to build a world that seems to be widely known, however strange. No matter The View and the Birds series, the Grand Scenic series, or The Nameless Landscape series, I hope my painting can be attractive, resonating people with brand new feelings.
My paintings come from imagination, memory, experience and feeling. Since The View and the Birds series, I started to try the form that lays out a number of images in one picture. Perhaps because I prefer the complexity of the painting, I put several painting language together. In the picture, there are both abstract and figurative language. This series of works of all my works is a sort of aesthetic type, just like essay. However I have to admit that I’m not really into aesthetic stuff. That’s why there are no eyes for the birds I draw, maybe I want to express the deformity and pain under gorgeous appearance. The Grand Scenic series are couplet works, which have biggest sizes. This group of paintings is a continuation of my graduation creation, which is still very complex. I really enjoy the endless outlining of leaves, and the half-seen figures hidden in the woods. And The Nameless Landscape is a very late series. This lot of paintings is not as elaborate as the first two series, but more leberating. My friends think it’s more unadorned and cordial. I myself think each of these three series has its own characteristics. I also would like to try to change the language of painting. Isn’t this new experience expected by all my viewers?
