"This traditional Chinese imagery suggests that the literati have a natural relationship with water and forests. It points to a poet's realm, or rather, it is "poetry" that connects people with water and forests. It is a kind of metaphor, and a kind of "hidden", alluding to some kind of longing deep in the heart of man, just as the artist Jingang chose to live by the water in the bamboo forest as his resting place. With the help of turning back to the real thing, it forms a return to the self and metaphysics of the mind with its own transcendence.
